Monster Chartist Rally anniversary walk - Saturday 12 April

On Saturday April 12th, Marietta Crichton Stuart, local historian and chair of the Friends, will lead a history walk around the park.

She'll tell you all about the Monster Chartist Rally that took place on Kennington Common 177 years ago this month, when thousands of working men and women gathered to demand better rights and conditions for normal working people.

This famous daguerreotype was taken on that momentous day – just look at that crowd!

Come and hear what happened all those years ago – meet at Prince Consort Lodge (Trees for Cities) in the park.
