Big Garden Birdwatch!

kenningtonpark

Sunday January 26th between 10am and 12 noon (outside the park café)

Every year, on the last weekend in January, the RSPB holds this important bird count. They invite citizen scientists all over the country to get involved and help them do a survey of the bird population.

As the climate crisis becomes ever more worrying, this survey provides a snapshot of how garden birds are doing in the UK – last year, the counts of house sparrows – though still in top spot – were down by a whopping 60% compared to the first Birdwatch in 1979.

We'll have leaflets to help you identify and count the birds, binoculars to help you see them, and bird books if you want to find out more.

So wrap up warm and join us outside the park café on Sunday, January 26th between 10am and 12 noon. We look forward to seeing you there!

If you prefer, you can sign up direct with the RSPB and count birds from home: just click here. Or pick up a form from us in the park on January 26th.

By the way - if you have a bird table in your garden, do please read the latest advice from RSPB about avoiding the spread of trichomonosis - an illness caused by a parasite, and thought to be responsible for the decline in greenfinch populations.
